BUT CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE PUGS?

Seriously though.
Last year I saw the The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 3 times in the cinema. I've seen Desolation of Smaug once but will probably see it a few more times next week. I went to the premiere showing and I've been speaking to others who saw the film and no one else seems to have noticed the two pugs.

It's as if Peter Jackson and the team sat down like "Ok, our films are hugely popular on the internet. If we're doing any last minute re-filming what can we add that the internet community already love?"
"What about a few pugs?"
"YES JIM. FANTASTIC. PUGS. GO FOR IT."

Please tell me I'm not the only one who noticed/appreciated the pugs.
