31 Horror Films in 31 Days: Film Three, Beneath The Darkness

Beneath the darkness is described as both a horror and a thriller. Just like the other day I'll blog along as I watch and share my thoughts as the movie goes on.
Warning: Spoilers. Not like it matters because this film is awful and you should not watch it.

"Someone give me an example of obvious foreshadowing The Tell-tale Heart."

Ok so the premise of the film is that an old man, Ely, is a respected member of the community. He's now a lonely mortician since the death of his wife. Everyone appreciates and respects him until some snotty teenage teens start to tell scary stories about Ely hinting on some supernatural rumours that would suggest he's not the pillar of the community that everyone sees him as. He is, however, revealed to us as a bad guy from the first minute of the movie so as an audience this is really no surprise to us.

Too much teen angst to take this film seriously.

OK. Pause the film. I know more about bodily decomposition than I should and if his wife died at least two years ago she wouldn't look remotely close to the body shown on screen. She's be bloated with skin and nail discolouration and you know... she'd be rotten. But she seems to be in perfect condition.

"Stairs can be very dangerous... most accidents happen in the home."
Thank you Dennis Quaid for acting as a public service safety broadcast.

"We determined that Danny fell down the stairs"
Oh really? Because that amount of trauma to the skull wouldn't have happened from a simple stair fall. This film seems more like a bad unintentional horror film spoof.

I'll be honest. My attention is pretty much gone at this point.

Can we also talk about how he wouldn't be able to even dance with his wife like that? Her body would be stiff and that is the most limp and limber two-year-old corpse I've ever seen.

Oh really. Someone was killed at the residence a few days before and there has just been a shooting there and you honestly believe that the hole in the ground is for an upcoming tomato patch? I know we sort of expect some level of stupidity in horror films but here it's just far too convenient.

Oh aye. Just push around a boy with a recently sewn up gun shot wound.

I have nothing more to say. This film isn't scary, it's a snoozefest. This film is reminiscent of Hitchcock's Psycho but lacks the excitement and suspense. Oh Sky Horror and Sci Fi channel, this was horribly misleading. I was hoping for horror and gore, not a horrible bore... I felt no care for the characters.  Anything in this film is something I've seen before... and I've seen it better. This scare-free flick isn't one I'd watch or recommend.

Oh Dennis Quaid, I expected so much more of you...
