31 Horror Films In 31 Days: Film Four, Pieces (1982)

This is yet another blog-along post where I'll be blogging along as I watch another horror film as part of the 31 Horror Films in 31 Days challenge.  Warning: Since I'm blogging my thoughts whilst watching the film THERE WILL BE SPOILERS.

Creepy music from the very start. Excellent! I've always thought that music, or the lack of it, is what really makes a horror film.

You know... it's kinda shocking that the mother didn't find those pornographic magazines sooner.

Oh God, I love fake 80s blood and gore! It's so fake and so schmultzy. The sniffing of the puzzle piece was a nice (and very creepy) touch. What little boy keeps an axe in their room?

Oh God, and the dripping fonts used in the credits - how utterly delicious. The film is a blood bath already and we're only 5 minutes in.

The basic synopsis? A psycho killer fulfils his strange perversions by creating a human jigsaw out of hacked up parts of women he has killed. This film has quite a heavy grindhouse aesthetic throughout.  Obviously this film features sexual undertones and a lot of violent acts against women which make for uncomfortable viewing. We're all too familiar with the B Movie scream queen starlets who turn up, look pretty with or without clothing only to be killed off quite quickly to become mere jigsaw pieces within the narrative. With some twists thrown in this is an archetypal 80s slasher flick. I probably wouldn't watch it again. It didn't really interest me too much if I'm honest.  I'm sure it's not the worst slasher film out there but it is by no means the best.
