Blogging Break

Hello bloglets!

I've decided to take a little time away from the blog to give myself a break. I am a true believer in the power of the New Year. I love all the vibes and positivity of a new year where people are really trying to better themselves. I am currently sitting down and having a good think about what I want from this year and am taking time to plan ahead. I need some time to just relax. Today is the first day I've had in about two weeks where I'm home and I have no other commitments. I've been rushing back between work and parties and different houses. I've just worked eight days in a row. I need a good day off to just relax. Well, as much as I can possibly relax as I'm using today to start a new job hunt. Tomorrow I shall post up my New Years Resolutions as I forgot to do so previously. Thank you for your patience and constant readership. You are appreciated.

Now to relax for a few days....

HOW'D YOU GET HERE? pt 3

So at the start of the year I did a post detailing some of the interesting things that Google Analytics show me, specifically what people manage to Google to find my blog. Some of them are an absolute mystery and I have no idea how they find my blog via such bizarre Google terms but they certainly do make me chuckle.
I have posted a few of these before and I really, really enjoy seeing what crazy stuff people Google to find this blog. Sometimes I really don't quite know how it got them here:

  • sexy classical music.
  • lesbian rudeness
  • dancing in the rain youtube
  • is drunk skinny dipping safe?
  • who's the queen
  • can't get candle wax out of cat's fur (that's probably one of my favourites)
  • heavily
  • legend gump
  • how do I find the book at the university?
  • Alex Vause Hunger Games
  • Artpop Game of Thrones
  • nerd stuff (this has been Googled many, many times to get to my blog...whut?)
  • in their skin sex scene
  • lady marjorie shaved head (sic)
  • lesbians in movies
  • aaliyah eyebrows in music videos
  • girls insult
  • красная переплет книга (meaning 'red hardcover book')
  • skinny old man
I'm really glad that so many of you end up here by Googling things like "pescetarianism for beginners" and am saddened by how many of you come here Googling terms like "insecurity" even though it leads you to my post where I remind you that insecurity is usually something that we've been made to feel by those around us and not our own fault. I hope that those of you Googling insecurity read the post and are reminded that you're wonderful and stuff. I hope that the new year brings plenty of weird stuff from Google.

October Blogging

Hello, my little pumpkins!

Last year I got really into the Halloween spirit on my blog. I took part in the 30 Horror Films in 30 Days challenge. I made a spooky song of the day for every day in the month. I reviewed a lot of horror films, recommended some spooky books and took part in a data-collecting project about representations of gender and race in horror films. It was one of my busiest blogging periods ever. This month I think I'm gonna take some more time for me than I did last year. Expect a few spooky posts but I think I'm going to keep it chilled out this October. I hope you're all getting in the spooky spirit - I absolutely adore this time of year.

Huzzah!

We've passed another milestone. Within the last 24 hours this blog passed the 40,000 views mark. I'm still ever so impressed by this little blog and how it is still pulling in new viewers and readers from all over the world. I'm forever thankful for every one of you stopping by and taking a moment out of your day to read my words. 40,000 views is hard to even fathom and so, dear reader, since you're one of 40,000 you have my utter gratitude.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

My Little Shopping Spree

So I finally got around to that little shopping spree I'd mentioned lately. I'm a bit of a saver rather than a spender. Most of my wages end up in a savings fund each month so that I can put money away for the future. I don't go out and just splurge on things like I did the other day.

I stopped off at Lush Cosmetics at Liverpool Street Station and then at Primark on Oxford Street and picked up a couple of goodies from both stores. At Lush, I went in to buy my regular shampoo only to find that the price had gone up. I decided to go crazy and try their Cynthia Sylvia
Stout shampoo that contains beer and cognac. Phwoar! It's the fanciest shampoo I've ever bought.

I got a gorgeous grey sweater form Primark (pictured right) and it's so cute. I suppose I like it because it's really long and super comfy.

When I was trying it on, I liked it mainly because it looks like something a sexy wizard would wear. Basically, I'm just a fan of wizard chic. Can we make that a thing? Can that be a trend?
I got a black kimino-like thing and another thing. Basically, I'm not very good at the words associated with fashion. But yes, maybe next month I'll do a little more shopping... And maybe I'll learn the words for the items I buy.

This is a no football zone.

Wherever you turn there's football madness everywhere.
It cannot be escaped, it seems.

That said, I can promise you all that this blog will remain a no football zone over the World Cup season so if you're tired of Facebook statuses about matches and goal updates then please stop by here, have a read of all of the non-sport related content and enjoy!

HOW DID YOU GET HERE? Pt. 2

So at the start of the year I did a post detailing some of the interesting things that Google Analytics show me, specifically what people manage to Google to find my blog. Some of them are an absolute mystery and I have no idea how they find my blog via such bizarre Google terms but they certainly do make me chuckle.
Here are some since the beginning of 2014:

  • desolation of smaug pugs
  • girls insult
  • Peter Jackson's pug
  • World's best sexual movie
  • pieces of 1982 photos
  • tumblr bio ideas
  • lesbian birdcage
  • really scary alien pictures
  • owl eyes great gatsby
  • be my god, armand to marius
  • Amazon just got more expensive
  • every thing has a silver lining
  • who is the writer of Game of Thrones?
  • Kavos nude
  • nerds like us
  • nerd pic insults
  • pictures of zayn malik now
  • dying the tips of your hair only
  • Adrian Barnes Fox Nod
  • was david wenham in flight of the concords?
  • control gamer girl
  • family skinny dip
  • who is the best female call girl?
  • In what movie does that song by Desireless play?
  • nerdy goth girls
  • gay bars in Kavos
  • gamer girl love poems
  • سوبر كي سكس (roughly translated: super ki sex/super gay sex)

A lot of them involved skinny dipping. I'm guessing there are a lot of skinny dipping fetishists out there who are disappointed when they Google something to do with skinny dipping only to click on my blog post where I simply mention I'd like to skinny dip again before the age of 25 (psst... I've already crossed that off the list)
Seriously though, I've no idea how some of these searches link up to my blog but it proves to be a fun, ongoing mystery.

One Year of HuffPost!

It is now officially a year since my first Huffington Post blog went live on their website and I must say that I am so pleased and so proud to be a part of such a wonderful website.
Having applied after finding success on this blog I was sure I wouldn't even be considered but after striking up conversation (mainly about Game of Thrones) with an editor it just... happened. I've been blogging ever since. Nothing makes me happier than seeing someone tweeting or sharing my blog posts. In 2013 someone even used one of my articles in a Twitter argument to justify their opinion. It was pretty rad.

Absence.

You know what they say:
Absence makes the  heart grow fonder.
Have you missed me?

I know I've been rubbish at updating this blog lately. I've even been slack at posting up song of the day posts. I mean, that's 365 blog posts per year and, although they're quick to put together, it requires a great deal of my time. I promise to write a bunch of blog posts over the next few days to provide some sort of blog content. I'm just trying to juggle work, writing, my social life and everything else around that.

Sending you love.

Recommended Reads

Hello, blog-ghosts!

It's Wednesday again so it's time for recommended reads, a segment where I give you some things to look at. These are things I've spotted online lately that I feel like sharing with you. They can be anything from news articles to videos, even pictures of Benedict Cumberbatch.
Why?
Because it's my damn blog.

So here are my picks for this week...

One Year Later.

I realise now that I've been writing on this blog for just over a year now. By March last year I was writing regularly in the run up to my dissertation deadline on the 22nd of March. Here I am, still writing my blog, and racking hundreds of views per week. I've been so busy and I didn't really acknowledge the milestone but it has been on my mind today.

It has been a great experience and has opened many doors including giving me the opportunity to write for The Huffington Post. As ever, I'm looking for new experiences so I may do more with journalism later this year, but I hope to keep blogging for the foreseeable future. I hope you'll all keep reading.

NEW LAYOUT!

Well look at this! It would appear that the blog has a snazzy new layout. The new layout is to celebrate my soon to be published collection of short stories. I just thought that the blog had previously been so dank and dark that it needed a reboot. OK, we've only really moved from black to brown but it fits the theme. It's textured like parchment because I'm an author. It features birds because it fits in with the blog title. I think it's gorgeous. I'm still working on it so if there are any problems, glitches or issues then please let me know in the comments section of this blog.
Otherwise...

What do you think?

New Zealand 2014

So one of my list items on my B425 List is to travel. I said that if I could make it to Canada, America, Australia or New Zealand I'd be happy. New Zealand is the place that I want to visit the most. I was hoping to make it to New Zealand last summer and I didn't for various reasons. Will I make it this year? Well, perhaps but I do have other travelling planned for the summer at the moment. Perhaps I could travel to New Zealand in the winter. You know, when it's winter here but warm in New Zealand. That could be fun. The only problem is that I'm absolutely terrified of air travel. I had a small but unpleasant panic attack last year on a flight to Cyprus. I managed to shut myself up by telling myself "Hey, if I die, I die but I guess there's some hope. Once we're up in the air if I still feel nervous I'll order myself a Bloody Mary..."

I'm really excited about potential travel later this year and now that I can blog from my phone you can bet I'll be taking you along too.

Play your ukelele...

I'm not really one for impulse buys but yesterday I bought something totally out of the blue.
I bought myself a ukelele.
I saw it in a charity shop and it was super cheap due to chips in the paint job.
I bought one like the uke pictured on the left of this text. It is covered in stars and it looks like some Fisher Price toy you'd give to a toddler... which is exactly why I had to have it.

I've affectionately named the new instrument Palmer (after Amanda Palmer, go listen to her song "Ukelele Anthem" and it'll make sense) so now I'm going to go and try to teach myself the ukelele. 2014 is going to be a fun year.

What Can You Expect On This Blog in 2014?

Sit down, blog-ghosts.
Let's have a chat about new features and coming articles on the blog for 2014.
2013 saw the rise of this blog from something I'd made and abandoned on the internet to something that actually garners a steady readership. I shall continue blogging through 2014. You'll still see film reviews and book reviews but my hopes are to post more in 2014. I get to see a lot of free movies now so it only makes sense that I go see movies and then write up my thoughts on them. Similarly if I'm reading a minimum of 30 books this year then I may as well review each one so expect a lot of reviews and discussions about literature and media.

After my hugely successful album review this year (yes I only did the one but it has been read by thousands of people all over the world) I suppose I had better write a few more. In this digital age it's so rare that we really go out and buy a full album but I shall certainly review a few albums just to mix things up a bit.

Similarly I shall be doing a segment called "silver linings search" where I write down and share things that I'm thankful for, things that make me happy. This way I'll be able to share and spread some positivity. Expect to see a post on "silver linings search" described in full.

Having utterly adored my blogging experience I'm going to try vlogging. I've set up a channel on YouTube  where I will hopefully be uploading regular videos to discuss and share the things I like and already vlog about. I've done a few videos already just to slip into it easily. I'll probably synch up this vlog and my YouTube so that I can share my videos here with you.

Later this year I shall be travelling around Europe with my Dad so expect some posts about our adventures and the countries that we visit. I'm not sure exactly how I'll vlog and blog those adventures yet as I don't particularly want to heave my laptop all around Europe but we'll see how it happens.

I suppose those are the only things I can think of at this moment in time.
Thanks for taking the time to read - I can't wait to share my 2014 adventure with you all.
