HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
I absolutely adore Halloween. It's such an excuse to watch movies, eat candy and wear silly costumes. It's a time of year that makes me miss being a kid and trick or treating in my old neighbourhood. Ahh, those were the days...
If you're going out for Halloween tonight, what are you doing and what are you dressing as?
Let me know in the comments section below. Whatever you do be kind and respectful to one another.

My All Hallows Read Recommendation: Bird Box by Josh Malerman
October is upon us and it's time for All Hallows Read!
If you've never heard of All Hallows Read
Last year I recommended Carrie by Stephen King as it's a real favourite of mine as well as a horror classic.
This year I wanted to recommend Bird Box.
Now I know I've discussed this book in a previous blog post but it remains the best book I've read this year and it's therefore the perfect All Hallows Read recommendation. Now only is this my all hallows read recommendation, but it is also my favourite book of the year and with a potential film in pre-production, you're going to want to read this book.
The book follows a young woman named Malorie. She lives alone with her two children after some event that is not fully explained to us at first. She cannot step outside, at least not without a blindfold. After the event, the internet went down. The phones went dead. People were dying all over the place due to bizarre circumstances. The book hops back and forth in time to really maintain a great level of suspense. It is so masterfully written. It has been a long time since I encountered a book so enthralling - especially from the horror genre. I cannot wait to see the film and I would recommend this book to absolutely anyone.

How To Know If They're "The One": Halloween Edition
There are points in our relationships that solidify one humble and solitary truth: this is the person that I am meant to be with.
It's not something we always realise instantly. It often takes a foundation of love, trust and respect. Along the way there are several important discussions. We discuss our responsibilities within the relationship. We discuss whether or not we want marriage. We discuss whether or not we want to have children. Once we know that we're on the same page as the person we've chosen to share our life with, it feels like a bridge has been crossed and we're now on the same page and we can peacefully continue our relationship. There is, however, one crucial discussion that all couples need but somehow forget. Once this all important conversation has arisen and been thoroughly discussed in depth it will reveal whether or not you and your partner are compatible...
This conversation in particular is, of course, the ever crucial zombie apocalypse survival discussion.
Yes.
How do you know if you and your sweetheart are meant to be if you don't know your plan for when the undead begin to walk the Earth?
I mean surely the conversation starts with where you in the event of a rage virus outbreak. Do you move into your home together? Do you move into their apartment? How much clothing do you pack? If you live together do you stay there in that home or move elsewhere? Should you fix that slick crack in the window now to prevent zombie breakage later? Which side of the bed do you sleep on and under which pillow do you hide a handy axe?
I mean surely the conversation starts with where you in the event of a rage virus outbreak. Do you move into your home together? Do you move into their apartment? How much clothing do you pack? If you live together do you stay there in that home or move elsewhere? Should you fix that slick crack in the window now to prevent zombie breakage later? Which side of the bed do you sleep on and under which pillow do you hide a handy axe?
You then have to discuss the rights and responsibilities of the situation. Who takes on the role of zombie lookout? Who is better at firing a gun? Is your shared home/location big enough for a large supply of weaponry and long-lasting canned goods? You need to discuss your tactics because no one wants to be slowed down by a partner with lousy survival tactics that will ultimately land them, and possibly yourself, in the position of becoming zombie food.
Then we come to the most crucial part of the discussion: what happens if one of you becomes infected. If you're truly in love there should be a pang of sadness in your heart at the very idea of your beloved becoming a member of the living dead but it's also a good idea to discuss what you do in the situation. Anyone who has watched a zombie film probably knows that gut-wrenching moment when the realisation hits: there isn't much time and this person is infected and soon to turn into a zombie. You have to take action and you need to do so very quickly. Now there are two really good options. The first is that you agree to do the humane thing for you both and you kill your partner so there's one less zombie in the world and you at least have a higher chance or survival. The second, and arguably more romantic route, is to stay by the side of your darling and become their food source and hopefully become infected with the same virus. This way you can continue your life together as you run around eating all the humans and causing general global terror but hey - at least you're doing it together!
If you both have a coherent zombie apocalypse survival plan and can agree on tactics and life-saving decisions, you're sorted because if you've got your relationship planned from this point until the dawn of the zombie apocalypse, you know you're set for life. Don't forget: a couple that slays together stays together.

October Prep.
Alrighty so it's October which means that we're one month from NaNoWriMo and I'm starting to prepare for it. I am so desperate to get my first novel finished by the end of the year. The one thing that I really struggle with as an author is perseverance. I fail to persevere and write a whole novel. I hop from project to project and move from one to another rather than sticking with just one. This month is like training for NaNoWriMo. I'm gonna try to start writing and preparing my work and editing it for NaNoWriMo.
If you're taking part in NaNoWriMo, I salute you!

October Blogging
Hello, my little pumpkins!
Last year I got really into the Halloween spirit on my blog. I took part in the 30 Horror Films in 30 Days challenge. I made a spooky song of the day for every day in the month. I reviewed a lot of horror films, recommended some spooky books and took part in a data-collecting project about representations of gender and race in horror films. It was one of my busiest blogging periods ever. This month I think I'm gonna take some more time for me than I did last year. Expect a few spooky posts but I think I'm going to keep it chilled out this October. I hope you're all getting in the spooky spirit - I absolutely adore this time of year.

New Pirates of the Caribbean Film to start filming in 2015?
Within the last 24 hours, news of a fifth Pirates of the Caribbean film have broken and spread all over the internet. Johnny Depp is about to whip out the eyeliner and reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow and I'm not sure how to feel about it all...
I really loved the film. The original film was so great. Then came a second, a third, a fourth...
The first three were fine but by the time the fourth was released it all seemed a little dry for my liking. I'm hoping that it hasn't been too long for us to appreciate a fifth and I really hope that there's a good script in place to really drive the project as I'd hate to see this franchise burn out having tried just a little too hard. Some film franchises get a little greedy from their own successes and it ultimately is their downfall. With the departure of Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley the 4th film didn't feel like a strong instalment. I'm trying to be cautiously optimistic but I am worried. I really loved the start of the overall narrative but it took a nosedive. Will this be a sailing success or will this make the entire franchise walk the plank?
Walt Disney Studios has confirmed that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is set to start filming in Australia in February 2015

Mila Kunis the 'MILF': Our Online Responses To Motherhood.
Actress Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher are celebrating the birth of their first child, a daughter.
The time following the birth of a child is a magical, tender time. Celebrities and fans alike have flocked to wish the couple their congratulations on the birth of their baby. Then, of course, there's the rest of the internet and the people that have flooded social media to inform us that Mila Kunis is now a 'MILF'
I've seen multiple posts in the past 24 hours calling Kunis a 'MILF' and for some reason it particularly ticked me off. I found it to be rather sexist and reductive. We don't see the same amount of attention given to Ashton Kutcher. Calling her a MILF doesn't celebrate the birth or congratulate her effort. It reminds us of how we see women: sex objects, the targets of desire. Even in this most personal, intimate time of her life we are being reminded of how people view women in the limelight. Mila Kunis is followed by so many Sexiest Women votes and awards from over the years. It's as if we forget that she's a talented actress and not just a body. People need to remember that women are more than their looks.
I think things like this just go to show that, no matter the joyous occasion, sexism is alive and well and that dark side of the internet is always there to perpetuate it.

SPOOKY TIME!
YAYAYAYAY!
It's October! The spookiest time of the year and it's one of my favourite times of the year. I, like so many, appreciate all the joys of pre-winter warmth, spooky candy, Halloween costumes. I'm hoping to scribble a few spooky things that fit the season over the course of this month. I'm starting to think up Halloween plans and potential costumes. I hope you enjoy the season as much as I do!
