Jared Leto signs up to play The Joker in Suicide Squad movie!

So the news is now breaking. It appears that the gorgeous Jared Leto has signed up for the role of The Joker in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie. These are big shoes to fill because we're all still revelling in the glory of the performance given by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. I for one will be awaiting this performance with great anticipation.

Jared Leto is no stranger to bad things happening to his face in movies, so a role as the slit-faced Joker shouldn't be so strange. His face was beaten in quite a bit on Fight Club and torn apart by bullets in The Panic Room. Hopefully he can hide away his pretty behind the clown make up and give a truly excellent performance.

New Pirates of the Caribbean Film to start filming in 2015?

Within the last 24 hours, news of a fifth Pirates of the Caribbean film have broken and spread all over the internet. Johnny Depp is about to whip out the eyeliner and reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow and I'm not sure how to feel about it all...

I really loved the film. The original film was so great. Then came a second, a third, a fourth...
The first three were fine but by the time the fourth was released it all seemed a little dry for my liking. I'm hoping that it hasn't been too long for us to appreciate a fifth and I really hope that there's a good script in place to really drive the project as I'd hate to see this franchise burn out having tried just a little too hard. Some film franchises get a little greedy from their own successes and it ultimately is their downfall. With the departure of Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley the 4th film didn't feel like a strong instalment. I'm trying to be cautiously optimistic but I am worried. I really loved the start of the overall narrative but it took a nosedive. Will this be a sailing success or will this make the entire franchise walk the plank?

Walt Disney Studios has confirmed that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is set to start filming in Australia in February 2015

Trailers for 2014 Movies I'd Like To See

Hey gang!
I've just gotten back into doing these little posts. I post some trailers for a few 2014 films that I like the look of. If you like them too then go see them, check them out on DVD. I have a real passion for film so I want to share it with you to hopefully spark your interest as well.

Here are my trailer picks for this week:

In Your Eyes

Well, we all know that I'm a sucker for anything made my Joss Whedon.
This looks like a really sweet idea of supernatural love. I'd really love to watch this. Sure, we all get a bit sick of rom coms but this seems like a really sweet twist on your typical lovey flick.

After The Dark

This film looks really interesting.
In some post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller where people are trying to figure out who gets to survive based on their skills from previous careers I think there's potential for the basis of a great movie. This trailer alone has my interest. Here's another trailer that more adequately shows the nature of the film.

Foxfire

I really love the look of this film - it's a flick about a bunch of girls who, unsatisfied with how men and society treat them, decide to take matters into their own hands and become a notorious girl gang. The trailer doesn't give too much away about the plot of the film as a whole so it leaves me curious and wanting more.

The Face Of Love

This one looks really interesting.
I love Annette Bening as an actress and the world is going to want to see the last few films graced by Robin Williams. As someone who has found the one true love of their life, I often fear losing that love. A film following a widow who is grieving and trying to cope with it in her own way seems like a really compelling film.

Bird Box: The Movie?

So, I recently posted my review for Bird Box by Josh Malerman calling it the best book I've read all year. Therefore, I am sure you can understand my excitement to know that it may soon become a movie.

Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to the film and rumour has it that a writer is already attached to the project as well as a director. Rumour says that the director will be Andy Muschietti, director of films such as Mama. Writer for the project will apparently be Eric Heisserer who has worked on projects such as Final Destination 5, The Thing and the Nightmare on Elm Street reboot. I am really excited about the potential of a film and really hope the project goes ahead. When reading it I thought that, if I were a director, this would be a book I've love to adapt and direct. I instantly thought that it would make a wonderful film.

Grace of Monaco: A Royal Bore.

Today I went to see Grace of Monaco starring the ever stunning Nicole Kidman along with Parker Posey, Milo Ventimiglia, Tim Roth and Frank Langella. With a star studded cast and the tragic tale of a starlet-gone-princess this could have been a promising film and I'd anticipated it with excitement. Sadly I was hugely let down by this snooze fest of a film. No wonder this film is bombing at the UK box office.

Filled with arbitrarily long moments of silence and extended close ups of Nicole Kidman's facial features, the film made for uncomfortable and dull viewing. It starts and ends with moments of silence which leaves the audience sitting there, awkwardly waiting in silence. Not even the lovely Nicole Kidman could save this flop. It skips so much of Grace's life to focus on the conflict between Monaco and France which, apparently, is all brushed over with an overly cliché and American speech you'd expect to find from a Miss America pageant contestant. It fails to deliver a dramatic crescendo or even to create any real sense of plot tension or character sympathy. No character feels relatable, characters are without chemistry and the film rushes by, glazing over an entire life to use Grace Kelly's character to narrate political difficulty rather than exploring her life properly.

As it ended I was left thinking 'Was that it?"

Nicole Kidman managed to portray more charm, higher class and a better story in her Chanel No 5 commercial.

What do YOU think of the title change?

JK Rowling Writing A Trilogy

So the news broke this week that JK Rowling's new "Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them" series is to be a trilogy. This news, of course, makes me immensely happy. JK Rowling has so much magic up inside her head that she wants to share and I'll gladly explore that world with her in anything she writes. Harry Potter and his adventures really shaped my childhood. When the news broke that JK Rowling was set to write a film in the Wizarding World I was ecstatic. It makes sense that Rowling is set to write a trilogy. She always creates so much back story and subtext that one film couldn't possibly contain all that her imagination could conjure. This is brilliant news and I cannot wait to see what is created.

Sandman Movie On The Way?

The news has broken across the internet that an adaptation of Neil Gaiman's 'Sandman' series is set to hit the screen in the near future.

Apparently Joseph-Gordon Levitt is in talks to star in and direct the film. Gordon-Levitt recently starred in and directed his own film Don Jon. The Sandman comics focuses around Dream/Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams who escapes captivity in the hopes of rebuilding his crumbling kingdom.

The film has been pitched to Warner Bros who have brought us things like the Batman movies that Gordon-Levitt also starred in. This is a project that I'll be watching and really keeping an expectant eye on.
