Summer Sun

This Summer the UK has thrown some bizarre weather at us. One moment we're caught in the middle of a heat wave and then we wake up to torrential rain with lashes of thunder and lightening. It certainly is keeping us on our toes.

However it is important to remember to soak up the little bits of sun we do get. Whether you're a sun worshipper or a tan-avoider this is something that you need to be getting.

Here's why...

- Sunlight initiates vitamin D3 creation within our bodies and the rays of light interact with the cholesterol in our skin, igniting a process that creates vitamin D from our kidneys and liver. Higher D3 levels can help to minimise the chance of fractures, particularly in adults.

- Being in the sunlight can make you feel less depressed and more positive.

- The warmth of the sun can warm greasy skin and help treat spots and skin imperfections.

- BBC News claims sun can help to lower blood pressure.

- Being out in the sunlight can help with certain rhythm sleep disorders. Similarly, healthy doses of sun have been used to reduce hypertension and incidence of cardiac disease.

- Sunlight is said to be beneficial in treating Alzheimer's by reducing agitation and night-time wakefulness as well as increasing sleep efficiency.

- Sunlight can help treat psoriasis by slowly clearing and treating psoriatic symptoms.

- There is currently a study in the works to explore the correlation between sunlight and the positive impact it may have on our metabolic rate.

Of course it is important to not overdo it. Too much sun can lead to cancer, skin aging and cataracts. Fifteen minutes is a good amount of time to reap the benefits you need without negative repercussions.

So if the sun is shining where you are then why not take 15 minutes to get offline for a moment and sit out in the sun for 15 minutes?
