'Me' Time

I currently have about two weeks booked off work.

I aim to use this time to write and relax. I got so behind with NaNoWriMo because I work full time. I have rehearsals for the show three times a week. Eventually I stopped altogether. In these two weeks I want to write and try to finish a novel by the end of the year though I'm not sure this will happen. I'm also going to try and work on this blog a little more this month. I feel really bad for neglecting it over the past six months. It just takes so much time and effort. Time to get back on track...

Warmth In Winter.

A friend of mine has just reminded me that, four years ago today, hundreds of us were snowed into our apartment blocks. We lived in these little apartments in the middle of nowhere in the hills and the forests. I'd chosen to live there rather than in the centre of town because it was quiet. Unfortunately those hills and the remote setting meant that nothing in terms of food or other goods was able to be delivered. We were stuck there for a few days. The shop was raided, all items bought, and the shelves were left empty. There was one bar in walking distance that was crammed full of chilly, scarf-wrapped students. It was a little scary. Most of us were trapped in and, with no buses able to get to us, some were trapped in the town centre and away from their apartments. Now I'm really thinking about that time and reliving it. This could be inspiration for a short story.

Thank goodness for little shreds of inspiration...

Cold Weather Tricks You Need To See

With the so called "polar vortex" and areas around the world reaching incredibly cold temperatures at the moment this seemed like a good video to share. These are some cool (literally) tricks to do in cold weather. Just be very careful with these as some could lead to you getting hurt if done wrong.

Personal: Snow

Am I the only one both excited and terrified by snow?

I'm already in the winter spirit. I love wrapping up warm, sitting by the fire, drinking hot chocolate and the excitement in the run up to Christmas. A dusting of snow just seems to be the perfect final touch, right?

Well as much as we love snow it also poses problems. For example I rescue and keep ex battery hens. It means closely monitoring them and making sure they don't get too cold during the cold of winter. It means being careful so I don't slip and fall on my injured knee. It means halted transport between me and my long distance partner. I love snow but I love it when I'm inside with my loved ones and exactly where I'm supposed to be.

Brrr!

Ever read Last Exit to Brooklyn?

Getting out of Huddersfield train station this morning felt like a mission of epic proportions. It seems like a miracle I even made it to my train. Later I'll upload a post with some pictures from the journey so you can see how crazy the snow is here.

Hope you're all warm, blog-ghosts.
